A few miles outside of the Wester Ross town of Gairloch lies the expansive and rather well-named beach of Big Sand. Behind the beach here is a very popular camping and caravan site, which on this sunny Saturday is absolutely heaving. I have to walk through the site to reach the beach but ultimately I find it too busy for my liking, so I return the next day to find it significantly quieter. A great beach for a walk any time of year I would imagine.
