306. Port Mora
The popular harbour village of Portpatrick is often used as a stopping point for walkers tackling the Southern Upland Way, but offers wonderful clifftop walking even for those just wanting a pleasant stroll with magnificent views. Before visiting the local beach, I follow the cliff path 20 minutes north to lovely Sandeel Bay or Port Mora. Legend has it that the waterfall dropping down beside the cave at the base of the cliff here has healing powers so I should perhaps be dipping my big toe in the pool to deter the arthritic pain hampering my walking today. A couple of Australian tourists are taking snaps at the beach but as they ascend the steps up the cliff, I have the quiet small bay to myself. Wonderful.
