304. Ardwell Bay
So far on my tour of the Rhins, the beaches have been easily accessible and can hardly be described as remote. Ardwell Bay on the other hand is definitely off the beaten rack, although having said, a beaten track is the best way to describe the unmade road that leads down to the beach car park. It’s strictly 5mph for the mile long track or your tires will be shot. Upon arrival though, its’s definitely worth it. I am suprised to see four cars already here, although three of them belong to a group of chaps who are preparing to hike along the coast away from the beach. What a superb beach this is, looking and feeling so much wilder and dramatic than the east coast beaches on the peninsula. The hull of a discarded white yacht lies among the dunes at the back of the bay. I have to admit, I didn’t expect to find a beach this wild down here in the south west.
