298. Sandhead Beach

As I cross the northern edge of the expansive Luce Bay I am about to enter the southern section of the Rhins of Galloway peninsula for the first time in over 15 years. My one and only previous visit here was with my daughter to visit the lighthouse at the Mull of Galloway, the southernmost point of Scotland. I clearly remember sitting on the grassy cliff edge alongside the lighthouse looking for dolphins with the glass-like flat sea on three sides under a cloudless sky. Before I head south, I visit the beach at Sandhead on the western edge of Luce Bay. It’s possible to walk for miles around the bay from Sandhead (unless there is MOD testing underway) but with a busy schedule ahead I walk for just a few hundred metres before turning back to continue the journey south.
