Right down to the far south west of Gigha is Leim Shore, a lesser know but in my opinion spectacular beach full of blue/green volcanic rocks, pools and white sand. The beach is easy to reach from the main road, past the island’s airstrip and along a track towards a house. I suspect the owners had been bothered once too many times by people wandering into their garden, so they had helpfully stuck a large sign on their gate saying ‘Beach’ with an arrow pointing across a field and down to the back of the bay. I loved this beach. These rocky beaches have so much personality – unique, interesting and varied. I could’ve spent hours here but had to make the 40-minute walk back to the hotel and on to the 10.30 ferry.
