From lovely Cuddyport beach, I am now back on the main road. I turn right and follow the track to the far south west of the island to reach Leim Shore, a spectacular less visited beach full of blue/green volcanic rocks, pools and white sand. From the main road, I pass the island’s airstrip and turn along a track towards a house. I suspect the owners have been bothered once too many times by people wandering into their garden, so they have helpfully stuck a large sign on their gate saying ‘Beach’ with an arrow pointing across a field and down to the back of the bay. I love the personality of rocky beaches like this – unique, interesting and varied. I could spend hours here but I have to make the 40-minute walk back to the hotel and on to the 10.30 ferry.
