309. Cullen Beach
A chance has arisen for a 48 hour beach trip, so I opt to fly to Aberdeen, pick up a hire car and drive up to Moray before staying overnight in Inverness and hitting the far north west coast on day two. I’m excited to be visiting the short but spectacular Moray coast for the first time and I will be working my westwards from Cullen, whose beach I have become familiar with by following the excellent Visit Cullen socials. It’s a little overcast but the prospect is good for the afternoon. The overnight storms appear to have whipped up quite the swell and the white horses are absolutely slamming into the beach when I arrive. This is such a dramatic sight, with the giant seat stacks at the town end of the beach taking the full force of the rollers. I see at the other end of the beach, some (presumably) experienced surfers are quite a way out doing their thing. Drama like this is captivating and I can spend all day here. I walk along the back of the beach following the Moray Coast Trail and back to watch the sea stack action once again. A superb place to start, and I’m so pleased I have finally made it to Cullen. Memorable.
