39. Kilmory Beach
I have a 48-hour window of opportunity to go beach-hopping in Scotland and I see that good weather is in store, so I set my sights on a whistle-stop tour of the Isle of Gigha and Kintyre in Argyle & Bute. I’m up bright and early, excited as ever for the adventures ahead, and I leave home at 4am, just as the sun is rising. The plan is to visit remote Kilmory beach and then make my way down into Kintyre. We really are talking remote now. It’s a 30 minutes drive along a single-track road from Lochgilphead in the rural district of Knapdale. On arrival, a few families from the nearby holiday homes are enjoying the beach, but otherwise it’s quiet and peaceful, with great views over to Jura. It’s a stunning beach and could definitely be classed as a ‘hidden gem’ because of its remote location. I wander along the beach and around the surrounding hills. It’s shaping up to be a good day. Well worth the effort.
