291. Dalavan Bay

Crossing over the River Fleet I head south of the rather grandly named Gatehouse of Fleet to follow the coast known as Cardoness shore. Sandy bays litter the coast here, but the two prominent beaches are Dalavan Bay and Mossyard. To find Dalavan Bay, I find myself entering the rather attractive Cardoness Estate. I pull up at the estate office where I am told I can buy a day ticket for the beach car park half a mile or so further along. I ask the helpful man if I can leave my car here and walk instead and I tell him why I’m visiting the beach. He lets me off the £4 charge, for which I am grateful. It’s a nice walk through the estate, which has holiday lodges dotted around nearer the beach. The bay itself is wide and serene with views over to Cat Craig. I walk back to the car feeling peckish.
