Opposite Traigh a Bhiagh, on the other side of the dissecting road, is Traigh Shiar, Vatersay’s west-facing beach. It’s just a short hop over the road and through the dunes, and I actually prefer this beach to its more popular neighbour. Behind the beach lies a monument to the Annie Jane, whose 350 passengers bound for Canada perished in the bay in 1853.  The half-mile bay is so peaceful and tranquil on this sunny morning, I know I am lucky to have it to myself.
