40. A’Chleit Beach
Having started the day at glorious Kilmory beach, I drive back to Lochgilphead and head south into Kintyre, past the Kennacraig ferry terminal to Islay (happy memories!) and down to Tayinloan, where the small ferry leaves every hour to the Isle of Gigha. I have some time to kill, so I pop a few miles down the coast to visit lovely A’Chleit beach, which hides from the road behind the impressive A’Chleit church (1788). I follow some steps down from the church car park to the sandy beach, with its large black rocks and high dunes, and with impressive views out to Gigha and Jura. For a beach just yards from a main road, it’s surprisingly peaceful and idyllic.
