35. Knockvologan Beach
After the thrills of Traigh Gheal, I was pleased to just have a gentle stroll past Knockvologan Farm, where I had parked earlier that morning, and down to the acres of spotless sand known collectively as Knockvologan Beach. In truth, it’s a series of incredible open beaches littered with hidden coves, rock pools and giant rock stacks. Opposite is the tidal island of Erraid, with its own famous beach known as David Balfour’s Bay. The tide is out so I could make the trip over, but I decide to keep this little treat for another time and opt instead to explore the expansive Knockvologan Beach itself, as well as its surrounding hills. The views, from all angles, are just ridiculous and I appreciate the opportunity to be here on such a beautiful day. I walk back up to the farm and have a tricky negotiation to make with a herd of cows who are blocking the steel gate. I have to leave the car to open and close the gate and they aren’t playing ball. I slowly edge my way past and squeeze the car through. I had to appreciate the stubbornness.
