114. Balevullin Beach
Balevullin (TrĂ igh Baile a’ Mhuilinn) is one of the most popular of the surfer’s beaches on Tiree, with a dedicated car park and surf school. By now, we are facing North West and capturing the warm Gulf stream flowing in from around the island. From the parking spaces above the bay, it’s a fantastic view down onto the deep beach with its rolling waves crashing against the rocks and sand. The high dunes at the back of the bay provide a perfect position to watch the action, although on this sunny Monday there were no surfers in the water. The strong winds which normally attract the surf dudes are also responsible for the large numbers of seabirds which gather on the exposed beach here before heading out onto the Minch. A modern surf shack has been built in the corner of the beach providing hire and tuition in the busy summer months.
