The combined villages of Elie and Earlsferry are among Fife’s most popular and scenic destinations and I am looking forward to exploring this particular section of the Kingdom. We have three beaches on offer here, and I start with a walk from the heart of Elie down to the harbour, with its chocolate box setting and large sandy beach. The Ship Inn is a famous watering hole on the harbour front, and home to the only cricket club in the world to play its home matches on the beach (fixtures are dictated by the tides). Crowds come from far and wide to watch the players battle against the incoming tide. I should really pop in the Inn for lunch, but after the fruit scone and cream at Silverburn Park, I’m far too full for lunch. I walk across the bay, past some local sea swimmers braving the cold water, and back round to the harbour. What a lovely village.
