320. Rosemarkie Beach
I’ve enjoyed a superb road trip so far from Inverness, over to Ullapool, up the west coast via Scourie to Durness, and then across to Tongue and back down through Lairg. As I return to Inverness, I am thinking how to spend the remaining few hours before my homeward flight. I’m driving through the Black Isle and I pull over to see if there are any local beaches in the area I can take a look at. There is – Rosemarkie – and it’s only 20 minutes away, so I detour off the main road towards Fortrose and Cromarty. This pleasant well- maintained sandy beach sits on the edge of the village, backed by woodland and walking paths, more rocky at the far end. A few people are milling around but the beach is big enough for everyone to have some space, with lovely views across the Moray Firth
