This is the popular family beach in the tiny hamlet of Mellon Udrigle. After visiting nearby deserted Slaggan Bay, this felt like Brighton beach with about 20 people already here when I arrived! From the beach, it’s a short walk to a hilltop cairn with spectacular views over the sea to the Summer Isles. Apparently it’s not unusual to spot a submarine popping up around here because of the nearby naval base.

Revisit: 21st September 2024

On my return visit to Wester Ross, I checked out of my hotel early to maximise the time on this beautiful Sunday morning. Just as I did five year’s ago, I drove straight to Mellon Udrigle for a short morning stroll before the hike to Slaggan Bay just down the road.
