14 October 2019

A short drive along the coast from Mellon Udrigle brings us to the expansive Gruinard Bay, another very popular Wester Ross beach. The wonderful thing about Gruinard Bay is that it’s made up of a number of small bays, enabling you (if the tide allows!) to round a rocky outcrop at the end of one bay to then find another hidden sanctuary. Easy to see why this beach is so popular. I will return to this bay, and others in Wester Ross, another time so I can spend more time appreciating the beauty of this amazing area of Scotland.  Wester Ross is where my journey started – the first beaches of the Project. They deserve another visit.

Revisit: 21st September 2024

As I vowed to do in the description above, I did return to Wester Ross on a beautiful weekend in September under cloudless skies. As I did last time, I chose to visit Gruinard Bay after a hike to Slaggan Bay, but unfortunately this time the tide was in and I wasn’t able to explore this fine beach as widely as I could in 2019.  I made do with a wander as far as I could, which wasn’t far!
