82. Ardmair Beach
It’s April and after a long winter I’m excited to head off for a long-awaited first beach trip of 2023, and I’m so lucky to have selected three days of unbroken sunshine and cloudless skies. This is a big trip, covering most of the north-west coast of the Highlands and taking in some of the absolute big-hitters of the Scottish beach scene. I fly into Inverness, pick up a hire car and drive across to Ullapool to begin my beach-combing on the road north towards Assynt. No more than a few miles outside Ullapool lies the hamlet of Ardmair, with its attractive roadside beach. Backed by a few cottages and a parking lay-by, this popular wide sweeping stony beach looks the part from the road, with the turquoise water contrasting nicely with the bleached white stones. It’s a perfect start to the trip.
