247. Ganavan Sands
A long, settled spell of dry and sunny weather over the whole of Scotland was too good an opportunity to miss, especially as I could plan a trip with the near-certainty of perfect walking conditions. I only had 24 hours to spare, so I opted for something a bit different – a a day trip to the Isle of Coll via Hebridean Air. The early flight from Oban Airport meant an overnight stay in the town, so after breakfast, and with 30 minutes before ‘check-in’, I drove up to picturesque Ganavan Sands, two miles north of Oban. A few dog walkers and a morning swimmer, but it was otherwise empty and the still, clear morning was providing great views to Lismore and Mull. Judging by the size of the car park and the weather prospects for the day, it wasn’t going to be long before this lovely beach would be heaving.
