A long, settled spell of dry and sunny weather over the whole of Scotland is too good an opportunity to miss, meaning I can plan a trip with the near-certainty of perfect walking conditions. I only have 24 hours to spare, so I’ve opted for something a bit different – a a day trip to the Isle of Coll via Hebridean Air. The early flight from Oban Airport means an overnight stay in the town, so after breakfast, and with 30 minutes before ‘check-in’, I drive up to picturesque Ganavan Sands, two miles north of Oban. I see a few dog walkers and a morning swimmer, but it is otherwise empty and the still, clear morning is providing great views to Lismore and Mull. Judging by the size of the car park and the weather prospects for the day, it isn’t going to be long before this lovely beach is heaving. For me, it’s off to the airstrip!
