167. Achateny Beach
I didn’t know about this beach when I planned my trip. It was recommended to me by the lady from the Ardnamurchan lighthouse cafe, so I took her advice and set off to find it after visiting Fascadale a mile or so along the road. I parked off-road before a farm and followed the private track through the farm and out past a few houses. It was a lovely walk by a river, with helpful stepping stones set up to get across and on towards the beach. I was surprised to find a small family here enjoying the tranquility. When that happens, I tend to skirt around the edges of the beach and not get too close. Beaches like this should be experienced in privacy and I’m very conscious of giving people space. Besides, the wonderful beach was wide enough to explore and poodle around unseen.
