165. Swordle Bay
2 May 2024
A mile or so along the road from Kilmory lies Swordle Bay, another small but dramatic beach holding plenty of interest. I parked off road near Swordle Farm and walked the half a mile or so down the track to the beach, which is notable for both geological and archeological reasons. A Viking boat burial was discovered here in 2011 during excavations. The large layered rock constructs reminded me of part of the Assynt coast. It’s at times like this that I wish I knew more about geology because I would love to know what I’m looking at. You know it’s impressive but can’t explain why!
