53. Skipness Beach
All the beaches I have visited on my tour of the perimeter of Kintyre have been sandy affairs – either perfectly white or golden – so I am a little surprised by what I find after the long drive up to Skipness in the far north west of the peninsula. Here there is virtually no sand, but large rocks, pebbles and shingle along the full expanse of the beach. I park near Skipness Castle and walk down to the beach, but access is also possible from the village. Some people are enjoying a late lunch at the popular seafood cafe here, but the beach is empty. Now, with Arran opposite, calling me to visit its own beaches one day, it is time to leave Kintyre and begin the 7 hour drive home. In 48 hours I have visited 17 beaches, been blessed with great weather, not seen a single midge and loved every minute!
