246. St Ninian’s Bay
My superb day on the Isle of Bute is coming to an end and I can reflect on a totally surprising experience that I hadn’t anticipated when choosing to visit an island so close to a major city on a school holiday in 20 degrees of sunshine. I have hardly seen anyone all day on my walks, and the few people I have encountered have been extremely friendly. The beaches too have been wonderful and I am so glad to add them to the collection. My last visit is to lovely St Ninian’s Bay, back on the west coast. I park in the village of Stead and take the short walk down to the beach, where the tide is out and the curved bay neatly frames the ruins of St Ninian’s Chapel on the far side of the bay. It’s a fitting end to a great day before I catch the ferry back to the mainland.
