236. Sannox Bay
This beautiful little bay sits in the north east corner of Arran and is accessible via stepping stones and a gorse-filled path from a small car park. An information board describes the beach (Viking for Sandy Bay) as a “tranquil curve of Arran’s coastline” and a starting point for both gentle coastal walks and full-day hikes in the surrounding hills. The path winds through hedgerows of hazel, beach and hawthorn before emerging onto the beach. Three generations of a family, a grandmother, a mother and a young daughter, were playing by the shore on this sunny day, but it was otherwise deserted. The view out to see was impressive enough, but my eyes were drawn to the imposing mountains, including Goat Fell, behind the beach. A wonderful spot.
