232. Machrie Beach
2 April 2025
As I work my way clockwise up the west coast of Arran I am excited to stop at Machrie to visit the 2000-year-old standing stones at Machrie Moor. I like these little detours. I follow a pleasant 2km inland walk into the valley and soon the stones and stone circles appear into view. Wow, they are truly stunning and I can feel the ancient history of this sacred place come to life. Back at Machrie, I stop at one of the many pull-in points by the road, where I wander onto the long sand and stony beach to enjoy the views over to Kintyre.
