72. Traigh Iar
1 September 2022
Dominating the western coast of the Udal Peninsula is Traigh Iar, a 4km half-moon bay with white sand, high dunes and unbeatable views across to Taransay. I entered the beach from a small sandy cove at the north of the bay and followed the curved shoreline for about a mile or two before taking a sharp left through a gap in the dunes to pick up the path across farmland to the parking space at Grenitote, thus completing the superb peninsula circuit. Unfortunately, for the first and only time in my three day trip, a blanket of cloud obscured the blue sky … but it was to return.
