148. Swainbost Beach
Another beach that requires a little effort to reach, making it likely that you’ll have it to yourself. Parking for Traigh Shuainebost lies at the end of a track from the village of Swainbost and it’s a short walk through a gate and over the grass and machair to reach this splendid, exposed beach (you can push the gate open and park on the grass nearer the beach but this is a protected area and I can’t imagine why anyone would want to do that). A local beach clean group had done a great job in tidying up this wonderful beach and store the collected plastic at the back of the dunes. Their efforts are appreciated because the cleanliness adds to the beauty and serenity of the beach, which features stunning volcanic rock features at one end.
