After a long and tiring day exploring the fabulous beaches of Harris, I drove to my hotel in Stornoway and promptly fell asleep until morning. I was therefore blissfully unaware of the spectacular Aurora display taking place directly above my head during the night. To say I am gutted is an understatement! No matter, today, my final day, it’s time to visit the beaches of the exposed north coast of Lewis. I enjoy the single track cross-island drive to the west coast village of Dalmore to begin my day on Traigh Dhail Mhor. This is a popular spot for surfers and a few camper vans are parked in the car park on my arrival, but with no signs of life. I have the beach to myself, heading over the rocks to watch the waves crash against the sea stacks.
