140. Traigh na Cleabhaig
The short walk from Northton across the coastal plain of south west Harris, exposed to the roaring Atlantic beyond, is invigorating, especially on a sunny and warm evening like this. After leaving Northton beach and following the headland, my next stop is the beautiful sandy beach of Traigh na Cleabhaig, with comes into a view dominated by the imposing peak of Ceapabhal in the distance. I sit for a moment on the hill above the beach, reflecting on the fact that this time last week I was in London’s Oxford Street with its noise, pollution and threat. The contrast to where I am now is extreme. I climb down onto the sand, follow the shore and rejoin the path towards the Temple, the end-point of the walk, but with one fine beach still to come.
