66. Traigh Mhor
The famous airport beach, the only place in the world where regular scheduled planes land on a beach and where the timetable is dictated by the tides. By chance when I arrived at the airport car park, a few dozen visitors were gathered with cameras readied, and sure enough, five minutes later a flight came in to land. It is an impressive sight to watch the light plane approach the beach and then splash through the surface water. Unfortunately, on this busy flight day, most of the beach is out of bounds (you can’t walk on the beach when the wind sock is up), so I have to make do with views from the road. From further up the coast however, at Eoligarry, I gain access Traigh Cille-Bharra, the small bay connected to Traigh Mhor around the headland.
