Heading round to the north of Sanday we come to another joyous peninsula with beaches on all three sides. I didn’t have time to complete the full circular walk I would’ve liked to do, so I followed the single track road to a small parking area behind Whitemill Bay. This lovely mile-long beach is notable for a network of impressive stone cairns, about 30 of them, of all shapes and sizes which sit at the back of the dunes. Bored fishermen, creative tourists or something more meaningful? The beach stretches across the northern tip of the peninsula and is rightly seen as one of the islands best beaches.
