180. Melvich Bay
After spending the morning around the Dunnet Head and John O’Groats area of Caithness, I have now popped over the ‘border’ into Sutherland to visit three fabulous north-facing beaches tucked into the rugged and wild north coast. By now on this project, I’ve become very familiar with magnificent ancient county of Sutherland, but these beaches on this stretch of the coast have so far eluded me. Travelling east to west, I come first to fabulous Melvich Bay, grab one of only a handful of parking spaces by the road and take the short walk down through the dunes to the beautifully curved beach. It’s beginning to cloud over again and I fear there will be no more sunshine for me today. Fortunately, even under grey skies, Melvich Bay presents a stunning sight.
