After spending the morning around the Dunnet Head and John O’Groats area of Caithness, I popped over the ‘border’ into Sutherland to visit three fabulous north-facing beaches tucked into the rugged and wild north coast. Travelling east to west, I came first to fabulous Melvich Bay, grabbed one of only a handful of parking spaces by the road and took the short walk down through the dunes to the beautifully curved beach. By now it was clouding over again and that was it for sunshine for the day, but even under grey skies, Melvich Bay presents a stunning sight.
