11 July 2024

It was mid-July and I was hoping to continue my run of good weather on this short trip to the far north west coast, but on this early Thursday morning it was cloudy and overcast as I walked through the Dornoch golf course and onto the vast stretch of golden sand which leads up to the Loch Fleet nature reserve. The groundsmen were preparing the greens to my left as I followed the path alongside the golf course towards Embo a few miles north. It’s a long stretch of beach and this area has been designated a site of special scientific interest because of the wildlife and natural habitat. To use a golfing analogy, it’s definitely an above-par beach!
