184. Thurso Beach
I stayed overnight at the new Premier Inn in Thurso, the northern-most town of the UK mainland. I was up early with a plan to explore the area around Dunnet Head before making my way back down the coast road, via Wick to Inverness. But first, I thought I’d have a morning wander on Thurso beach, which sits in the centre of town. It was overcast and drizzly so I didn’t expect much more than a bracing walk across the small bay, backed by houses. In actual fact, when I set foot on the sand the rain stopped and I enjoyed a good 30 minutes exploring the rock formations at the western edge of the beach. A good start to the day and fortunately there was no more rain to come.
