I’ve stayed overnight at the new Premier Inn in Thurso, the northern-most town of the UK mainland. I’m up early with a plan to explore the area around Dunnet Head before making my way back down the coast road, via Wick to Inverness. But first, I decide to have a morning wander on Thurso beach, which sits in the centre of town. It’s overcast and drizzly so I don’t expect much more than a bracing walk across the small bay, backed by houses. In actual fact, as I set foot on the sand, the rain stops and I enjoy a good 30 minutes exploring the rock formations at the western edge of the beach. A good start to the day and I hope there is no more rain to come.
