179. Dunnet Bay
11 July 2024
The jewel in the crown of this stretch of the north Caithness coast is Dunnet Bay, a majestic sweeping arc of golden sand between Thurso and John O’Groats, just under the Dunnet Head peninsula. I am lucky in that the sun has come out to bathe the bay in light and set the golden sand against the blue sky as the waves roll in. From high above the huge dunes it’s a magnificent sight. I climb down onto the beach and enjoy a great walk across the sands. I am so glad to catch this beach when the sun is out – not a common occurrence on this trip so far.
