179. Dunnet Bay
11 July 2024
The jewel in the crown of this stretch of the north Caithness coast is Dunnet Bay, a majestic sweeping arc of golden sand between Thurso and John O’Groats, just under the Dunnet Head peninsula. I was lucky in that the sun came out to bathe the bay in light and set the golden sand against the blue sky as the waves rolled in. From high above the huge dunes it was a magnificent sight. I climbed down onto the beach and enjoyed a great walk across the sands. I was so glad to have caught this beach when the sun was out – not a common occurrence on this trip!
