178. Bay of Sannick
Following the coast path from the Ness of Duncansby and the Duncansby Head lighthouse, I find the Bay of Sannick, overlooking the Pentland Firth. This small sandy beach, backed by rolling hills has a resident seal population but I can’t see any today. After a wander on the beach I by-pass the lighthouse and head for a glimpse of the famous Duncansby Stacks, home to thousands of nesting sea birds. This a dramatic and hugely impressive area of natural beauty, the giant stacks rising from the sea with birds nesting in every available crevice. If you ever visit John O’Groats, I’d quickly leave the tacky car park area and head east for a superb circular walk to Dunscanby and back.
