176. Freswick Bay
This is a lovely small sandy bay not far off the main A99 coast road but remote enough to be easily overlooked. A small track just before the settlement of Skirza leads down to a single parking spot, taken on this occasion by a small German camper van whose owner seems surprised to see another human being when I wander past. The beach itself is lovely, and dominated by the imposing Freswick castle at the southern end. The sand is gritty and grey, unlike the golden sand at Sinclair’s Bay further down the coast. A seal pops its head out of the water as I stroll past and watches me head towards the castle. A totally idyllic bay. Mr camper van has chosen a good spot.
