Heading north from Embo along the coast-hugging A9 we soon reach the historic county of Caithness and the dramatic East Caithness Cliffs Marine Protected Area (MPA), home to hundreds of thousands of nesting sea birds. There are no beaches along this long stretch of coast until we get past the town of Wick.  I stopped here for breakfast before heading a mile or so north to the Wick Golf Club where we find Reiss Sands, otherwise known as Sinclair’s Bay. This is a wonderful, long white-sand beach with low dunes and castles at both ends.
