So far, all of Tiree’s beaches had lived up to the island’s reputation and I’d already ticked off some classics, but when I walked onto Tràigh Thòdhrasdail from the top end of Greenhill Beach, I knew this was the one that would stand out in my memory. This beach has an instant wow factor, exposed to the wild Atlantic waves and a firm favourite for windsurfers, who apparently gave it the nickname of The Maze. The rock formations at the southern end of the beach, together with the high dunes, give this beach a dramatic other-worldly feel and that’s even before you stride out onto the golden arc of sand. An absolutely stunning place.
