The short 66m climb to the summit of Ben Feall provides spectacular views of sweeping Feall Bay, a 1km wide white and turquoise masterpiece that could be described as a classic Hebridean beach. On this sunny morning, the deserted bay neatly encapsulated why I’m so glad I started this project. It was a jaw-dropping, breathtaking sight from the nearby hill, nicely framed by new born lambs and their protective mothers on the hillside. I descended the hill, past Kenneth’s Seat, the memorial to the last Laird of Coll and onto the pristine sands. My route was to take me across the full sweep of the bay, with its high dunes and surrounding hills, and up the far side towards Calgary Point, the westernmost point of the island. Candidate for beach of the year.
