222. Portobello Beach

The resort of choice for the Edinburgh middle classes since the 18th Century, Portobello is now a thriving suburb with a well-maintained beach, wide prom and bustling cafes. This is my first time here and I enjoy walking the length of the prom alongside the beach, reflecting on my 40-mile tour of the East Lothain coast. This is a great place to finish the trip on such a beautiful January afternoon, and it is good to finally have a ‘city beach’ to add to my collection, especially as a contrast to the (many) remote, deserted beaches in the Project so far.
