262. Montrose Beach
After the serenity of magnificent Lunan Bay I head north to the town of Montrose on the Angus/Aberdeenshire border. This is to be my final beach of the day as I’ve chosen to stick only to the coast of Angus today and keep the whole of Aberdeenshire to another day. I confess, I’m not expecting much of this beach, which is backed by a promenade and seafront play area. On a sunny Sunday I’m thinking it might not be my thing, but I’m pleasantly surprised, not just with the beach itself but the whole seafront area. It’s clean, well-maintained and has an Arran-like Victorian vibe with its grand pavilion and sculptured railings. I enjoy my short walk here. Back to the car, I consider making the short 25-minute detour to St Cyrus Bay further up the coast but I decide against it, knowing I have a five-hour drive back home. It’s been a wonderful day in Angus.
